Program Description

This program is approved for federal funding under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which means individuals who meet certain criteria may qualify for financial assistance.
The central service technician is responsible for the procurement of surgical supplies and equipment. They are responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storing, and distributing the medical devices and supplies needed in patient care, especially during surgery.
Students will study theories on disinfection, cleaning and decontamination, infection prevention and control; sterilization processes; regulations and standards; safety; inventory management; and professional communication.
Upon completion of the program and 400 internship hours, students will be eligible to sit for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam through the International Association of Healthcare Sterile Processing (HSPA). Internship/clinical experience included (hours may vary from course schedule).
