The EMT-Basic Certificate Course represents the first response of the emergency medical system. Be prepared to care for patients at the scene of an accident and transport patients by ambulance to the hospital under the direction of more highly trained medical personnel. Learn basic emergency skills to assess a patient’s condition and manage respiratory, cardiac, and trauma emergencies.

The Emergency Medical Technician program prepares students to provide advanced prehospital emergency care under medical command authority to acutely ill or injured patients. Students will recognize, assess, and manage a medical or trauma emergency, record and communicate pertinent data to designated medical command authority, and direct and coordinate the transport of the patient.

Graduates of this option may enter the workforce immediately as a paraeducator in a school setting or they may choose to continue their education. The main focus of this education option is to prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university where they will complete their bachelor’s degree and become certified to teach elementary school.
